INTERVIEW WITH ROCCO808

Who is Rocco808? Where are you from?

I am just an island boy from Hawaii, you can always catch me at the beach or making music.

There are so many roads you could have taken in life. Why did you choose music, or would you say music chose you?

I would say music chose me, I always loved free styling for fun and listening to all types of music. I moved out to LA and started messing around on the mic at a good friend’s house, now I am recording myself and others.

What skills according to you are necessary for a successful music career?

I feel like it is all based on the artist, but a couple of things off the top of my head to become successful in this industry:

· Make good music!

· Be able to market the music you made so that it is heard all over.

How did you start singing/rapping? What is your style of music?

I free styled a lot back in the day. Started singing a couple years ago, I was never confident enough to sing until recently. I would say the music I make is Afro pop. A lot of my songs are a mix of genres that I feel represent my roots. The new track “Vogue it” is dancehall vibes and coincidentally everyone is loving dancehall right now!

What do you consider the important facets of the music industry?

The most important facets of the music Industry would probably be the marketing aspect.

How do you stay up to date regarding music?

I stay up to date by just making music I love. I do not really search for music to listen to, I only really get an outside influence when I am out riding with my people in their cars and such. I really love 2000’s R&B.

What is the hardest deadline you have ever had to make?

I never really have an issue with making deadlines, even when I have a lot of projects, features, and interviews. I always keep my turn around time quick, so I make my deadlines on time.

If you had one dream musical collaboration, who would it be? What would you make?

As far as right now, probably have to say Burna Boy, because his body of work is great and his style is sick, we would probably make some hits!

What would you tell up and coming artist who are coming up behind you?

I would tell them to just keep doing what they do, do not watch the next person. Becoming a great artist starts with understanding that this is not a race.
